Hwang Woo-suk, a South Korean scientist, gained fame for claiming to have created human embryonic stem cells through cloning. In 2005, it was revealed that he had fabricated his research data. He was convicted of fraud and embezzlement, leading to the retraction of his work and a loss of credibility in the scientific community.
